Images from Saturday's (23/1/10) National Triathlon Enticer Event. This event started in the heat of a Canberra summer day (38C+) and was hot enough just for the spectators! Brett's overall result of 11th out of 137 was exceptional and was considered good preparation for the Sprint Event to be held the following day.

Images from Sunday's (24/1/10) National Triathlon Sprint Event. The event began early morning, much to the delight of spectators and competitors! Brett's race was hampered by a tyre puncture on the first of four 5km bike laps and his time suffered considerably with an overall finish of 57 out of 113

Royal Canberra Women's Classic. Two opportunities presented themselves here. Firstly a chance to watch world class golf near home (just because they rated low on the fugly scale had naught to do with it) and secondly a nearly free ticket to roam the hallowed Royal Canberra Golf Course. Just happened to drag the camera along and took WAY to many photos, all with the Bigma.

Brumbies v Waratahs pre-season game. Held at Tuggeranong's Viking Park, luckily the tickets only cost $10 each 'cause if this is an indication of the Brumbies for 2010, the Joneses of Canberra will not be renewing their membership for 2011! Update 2012... that was certainly true... this year (2012) they are back to their best with young side no less.

Race #4 of the CPS Tri Series. The final event for the season was changed to a Duathalon due to water conditions in Lake Burley Griffin. Event was changed to a 5km run, 30km ride and 2.5km run. A brief thunderstorm during the ride made it interesting for many competitors.

Wakefield Park Raceway. Some slightly more updated racecars on this day, also including Formula 3 | Mazda MX5s | Sports Cars | Commodore Cup (linked above).... I took FAR to many photos.

Hillclimb. A motorsport for all the family. Apparently. Not a lot of excitement on this particular day I'm afraid... drove around the corner to the motorcross - much betterer!

Called in on a whim on the way home from the Hillclimb... should have come here first! What a blast, such a pity I couldn't stay longer than I did.

Brumbies v Reds
Finally took a camera to a Brumbies game, being round 12 of the Super 14 Competition against the Queensland Reds. Brumbies winning 32 to 12.

Speedway
I can still remember taking Brett and Melissa to the old speedway track out at Tralee way back in the old days, so when I'd heard a new track is under development at Fairbairn Park, I thought I'd drag Karen along after the gliders and check it out..... damn fence! A total waste of time and money. **Update - 2012 - thought I'd give it a second chance... same result, total shite.

Hillclimb 2
After a photographically (is that a word?) disappointing visit to the speedway and aware that another hillclimb event was taking place just around the corner, Karen and I dropped by to watch the action for a couple of minutes.... after getting "the" look, I realised I had over extended my stay....by only a little bit.

Shannons Safari Rally. Round 3 of the ACT Rally Series. Took the 400mm 2.8L out for a serious workout (my arm is still sore)...both covered in dust, loved every minute of it!

Enduro Karts
If go-kart driver/tyre/fuel changes are your thing, then perhaps the Endurance Karting Championships are just for you.....zzzzz.....

Quad bikes... some seriously serious air time was happening just across the way from the karts.

V8s @ Darwin. We travelled to tropical Darwin for the V8Supercar round at Hidden Valley. Like my previous visit with Brett back in 2007, Karen and I poshed it up with some corporate hospitality on the Saturday and Sunday. A complete photo list is available by email. AHL 2010. The Australian field hockey league came to Canberra on the weekend (3/4 July 2010). For the first time I was an acredited photographer... by mistake. On approaching the entrance and reaching for my wallet to pay the gatekeeper my entry fee ($5), I was annoited with an "All Areas" Media Pass and waved through the gates, without paying - bonus!... This could only be because I was carrying that big white lens (this one). I didn't stay long and my hockey photographic skills are shall we say kindly, lacking.

AFL Canberra (ACTAFL). After quietly leaving the hockey, I made my way over to Manuka Oval for some local footy. This time, lens or no lens, I had to pay the $5 to get in. My footy photo skills are an improvement over my hockey ones - a personal opinion only I hasten to add. The game, a surprisingly good one, was between the Belconnen Magpies and the Sydney Swans Reserves.

Mini Corsa Rally. I've been photographing the local car rally scene for a couple of years from the available spectator points, however for this event, I was invited to participate as one of the event photographers and given access to stages and locations not open to the general public. Australian Country AFL Championships. Held in Canberra this year, I managed to get to a couple of games and witnessed some pretty good footy. Phots are from ACT v Victoria 1 and Victoria 1 v NSW matches.
